They will each give a 3-hour masterclass on Thursday 29 Oct. You can choose one or both masterclasses. Combine them with a conference ticket and you will enjoy two days of immense inspiration. Transforming data points in artefacts and everything in between
We are used to represent data, as a single and specific piece of information, as a point. The point is a fundamental building block, easy to be found in a spreadsheet within a single cell or visually translated in a dot on a chart.
What if the data point becomes an artefact, an access point or a stack of layers to be unfolded? If a data point is enclosed in time and space, how does it relate to the other data point? How could we visualise the space in between?
These questions are at the core of this masterclass. We will dive through some datasets, rediscover and explore some hidden layers of visual narrative. There will be space for conversation and exercise, participants can sketch with their favourite medium.

Jeroen Krul of Clarify
Visual communication
Simple drawings can make complex things instantly clearer — whether you're in a team meeting, pitching an idea, or just want to organize your own thoughts. In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of visual thinking: how to translate words into images, and how to strengthen your story with simple shapes, arrows, and stick figures.
You don't need any drawing talent. We'll help you overcome any fear of drawing and get straight to practice: you'll work with basic techniques, learn handy structures and templates (like timelines and mind maps), and finish by creating your own visual drawing on a topic that interests you.
Suitable for anyone who wants to communicate or create more visually — from teams and professionals to freelancers, makers, and individuals who want to get their ideas onto paper more effectively.

BNO is easily reachable by public transport via Amsterdam Central Station. Head to the IJ-side of the station and take the ferry furthest to the left (F4), heading towards NDSM. It departs every 15 minutes.
